Updates on Medical Assistance in Dying:  Lessons Learned and What Has Changed Since 2016

Sandra Andreychuk, Advance Health Care Consultant. BScN, MHSc, MSc. Quality Life Planning

At some point in our lives, we’ve all had to come up with a plan for a celebration or a vacation, the arrival of a new baby or renovations to our homes. But one of the things we avoid planning for is the end of our lives. It’s an uncomfortable conversation for all those involved. We all inevitably enter into the last chapters of our lives, so it’s important to be clear about what we want. When someone is faced with a serious or critical illness, they may want to make the choice to proceed with MAID: Medical Assistance in Dying. Amendments to the criteria in 2021 expanded eligibility to include those suffering from chronic illness whose death is not predictable.

This month, Empowered Seniors Speakers Series is pleased to welcome Sandra Andreychuk, founder of Quality of Life Planning, a comprehensive service dedicated to empowering individuals and families to navigate life’s uncertainties with confidence and clarity. In this session, Medical Assistance in Dying: Lessons Learned and What Has Changed Since 2016 , Sandra will explore what is currently happening in the Canadian health system and what the future might hold for those seeking access to assisted dying.

During this seminar, you’ll learn:

  • What has changed since Parliament of Canada passed federal legislation in 2016
  • What are the criteria for requesting MAID
  • Why the choice matters to you and your family
  • How to navigate the process
  • What changes to MAID are on the horizon
  • What ethical challenges we may face

Testimonials

Marion was referred to me by a very highly respected "business friend" and she proved to be all that my friend boasted about. I did not really think that I needed an agent to assist me in selling my home ......... but I was proven to be wrong ! Many of the "details" would have been sorely overlooked and could have proven to be a disaster for me ! Marion handles every detail with great professionalism and was able to complete my sales transaction without a worry to me. I would, indeed, recommend Marion to my friends knowing that I was doing them a great service.
