Here in Burlington, Keller Williams addressed the issue of hunger and food insecurity by organizing a city-wide Food Drive in support of Food4Kids, Compassion Society of Halton, Reach Out Centre For Kids (ROCK) and Partnership West Food Bank. Perhaps surprising, numerous individuals in Burlington go hungry when not assisted by food banks and food security programs. 7.6% of Burlington residents are living in low-income households and about 44% of food bank clients are children.
Over 2 tonnes of non-perishable food items, toiletries and cash donations were collected on our first Keller Williams RED Day Food Drive. Through this efforts associates helped to improve the community and provide children with opportunities to grow, excel and thrive. Food4Kids distributes packages of healthy food to kids aged 5-14 who have limited or no access to food each weekend.
Compassion Society stocks a food cupboard where people in need can access items for free on a weekly basis. Through ROCK, children are offered daily after school snacks and a weekly breakfast program. Families also have access to a food cupboard. Partnership West Food Bank provides food for people in need and distributes to a network of local agencies, children's snack and nutrition programs.
