Event Overview

Understanding later-in-life housing options or discovering what is best for an aging relative can be a daunting task. This FREE - and fun! - community event can help! It's perfect for seniors and their families who wish to learn more about local retirement residences and a variety of other housing options and related services. Have all your questions answered.  Stop by anytime on Saturday April 14, 2018 between 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m at the Holiday Inn Burlington Hotel & Conference Centre.  We'd love to see you there!

There will be more than 20 local representatives on hand ready to chat about Burlington retirement residences and other housing options plus how to how to make a move easier. Learn about the services that allow seniors to age in place without needing to move, plus important information on how to grow and protect your wealth. In addition, you’ll be able to learn from speakers who will be hosting hourly presentations throughout the day on topics important to seniors and their families such as legal and health care matters.

Our government has an important role in providing support to older adults so they can stay independent, safe, healthy, active and connected to the community. Aging with Confidence: Ontario’s Action Plan for Seniors focuses on areas that seniors say they care about most, including living independently for as long as possible and staying connected through social, recreational and volunteer activities. Eleanor McMahon, MPP for Burlington, will speak about the senior’s action plan at our Housing Options Expo on April 14.

As we age there will come a time when the question arises – “Should I stay in my current home or is it time to move?” The truth is it’s a very personal decision and what’s right for one person or family is rarely right for someone else. Often seniors find just thinking about moving overwhelming and simply avoid the matter until they find themselves in a crisis situation. As a Master Accredited Senior Agent my goal is to help seniors make decisions about their future housing by choice rather than by circumstance and this event is one way to present valuable information to seniors and their families to help get important conversations started.

This FREE Seniors Housing Options Expo is being hosted in partnership with Amal Helbah-Dawson (Financial Planner, Investment and Retirement Planning, RBC Royal Bank)

Are you wondering:

Whether all retirement residences are the same?  What makes them different?

What other downsizing options might be suitable for you?

What you need to know about condo living?

Where you can get help if you'd like to stay where you are yet know you need some help to do so.

What it costs to live in a retirement home?

Whether retirements homes are all 'All Inclusive' or are 'A-la-carte' options available?

If there's a way to arrange a short stay to see if you like a particular retirement home?

Who can help you figure out what to do with all your possessions that you've acquired over the years?

If any sort of health care is available in a retirement home or whether a Long Term Care Home is really what you need?

How to determine whether you'll have enough funds to last?

What the process is to secure a room/suite in a retirement home? How soon can you move in?

About a parent that needs some assistance with daily living and what the options are?

What exactly is a reverse mortgage?

Whether staying in your own home and aging in place is a viable option and who can help with that?

How you find out about rental suites?

Whether there are programs or funding available to help modify your current home to make it safe for you?

What Home Share is all about.

Then there's Co-Housing.  This is getting very confusing.  Who can talk to me about this?

Is there a way to access the equity you've built up in your home and use it to help you age in place?

This event is definitely for you!
